What Should I Expect From a Private Duty Care Provider?
Most Private Duty agencies are capable of providing light duty services such as;
- housekeeping and secretarial duties
- companionship and socialization
- medication reminders
- meal preparation
- transportation and accompaniment to doctors appointments
- monitoring of special dietary needs
- assisting with grooming, bathing and dressing
- other services of a non-medical nature
Some agencies are also equipped to handle supportive medical care. Medical care requires a different level of training and certification for the care givers. In addition to the aforementioned non-medical services, supportive medical care also has a broad spectrum of available services, depending on the complexity of an individual’s needs. Some of these additional services include, but are not limited to;
- hands-on management and administration of medication
- complex wound and ostomy care
- monitoring of vitals
- rehabilitative services for varying needs
- infusion therapy
- wheelchair and/or lift transfers
- ventilator care
- toileting (i.e.; bowel and catheter program management)
- other services requiring a skilled nurse or specially trained care giver
