What Should I Expect From a Private Duty Care Provider?

Most Private Duty agencies are capable of providing light duty services such as;

  • housekeeping and secretarial duties
  • companionship and socialization
  • medication reminders
  • meal preparation
  • transportation and accompaniment to doctors appointments
  • monitoring of special dietary needs
  • assisting with grooming, bathing and dressing
  • other services of a non-medical nature

Some agencies are also equipped to handle supportive medical care. Medical care requires a different level of training and certification for the care givers. In addition to the aforementioned non-medical services, supportive medical care also has a broad spectrum of available services, depending on the complexity of an individual’s needs. Some of these additional services include, but are not limited to;

  • hands-on management and administration of medication
  • complex wound and ostomy care
  • monitoring of vitals
  • rehabilitative services for varying needs
  • infusion therapy
  • wheelchair and/or lift transfers
  • ventilator care
  • toileting (i.e.; bowel and catheter program management)
  • other services requiring a skilled nurse or specially trained care giver
